» The park is used by many youth for soccer practice, basketball and family gatherings. A great idea would be astro turf, this would make the park more appealing. Please drive by anytime after 4 in the afternoons M-F and every weekend. The park has changed, I am sure you will be impressed.

»We have over 70 teens currently attending the Teen Center, we have run out of space. A larger teen center would be amazing!
»I am not sure putting in a police substation would give the perception of safety. Although, our SBPD is awesome many of the immigrants here have experiences dealing with deportation. I think adding on to the Boys and Girls Club or creating a Community Center that holds parenting seminars, is a safe place for kids, etc...where community members are there wanting to build relationships with the youth and other community members. That sort of building/location could be a gathering place for many people.
»I am with Cassie~by the time I got home, got settled and my bags over (and I live 4 houses away from Harding), folks were packing up AND there were hardly any farmers there! We have some ideas from our 6 week group to create Farmers Market to be the happening place~come if you can to our first community meeting for ZOCALO this THURSDAY from 6:30-8pm at the Westside Boys/Girls club! I am putting another note on here now about it!

»Combine that with the need for a communications center. The relationships between the Mujeres group and law enforcement could be fostered, families could go somewhere safe for local youth program information, and it would be a safe gathering place. LE could have a bike shop there where kids and families could do repairs and learn about all things safety related.

    The United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County has a rental property at 1135 San Pasqual on the Westside. Though this is currently being rented to a Section 8 renter, it's highest and best use is under utilized.

    Our Board of Directors would welcome the opportunity to discuss with THRIVE considering renting this faciity as a resource center. This could be accomplished on a rotating basis for those non-profits that do not have a physical presence on the Westside in generic rooms (three exist in current faciity) with a waiting room, kitchen, and bathroom.
