Ed Behrens was appointed principal of San Marcos High School in 2011 after serving as assistant principal for 14 years. San Marcos High already is working with La Cumbre Junior High School to ensure that incoming ninth-graders make a smooth transition to high school.

23rd District Congresswoman
A Santa Barbara resident for nearly 50 years, Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, was first elected to Congress in 1998. The former school nurse has been an advocate in Washington for schools, the environment and public health. She has worked to enact legislation to address the national nursing shortage, domestic violence against women, underage drinking and CPR instruction in schools.

In July, Dave Cash returned to the South Coast as superintendent of the Santa Barbara Unified School District after serving as schools superintendent in Clovis and Claremont over the previous six years. He is a former principal of Dos Pueblos High School and Goleta Valley Junior High School, and a former teacher at Peabody Charter School.

A Westside resident, she is involved with THRIVE Westside as a supporter of the Westside Boys & Girls Club. Murillo brings experience as a journalist, mentor of at-risk teenagers and a performing arts teacher in local elementary schools.

The executive director of THRIVE Santa Barbara County, Anita Perez Ferguson is a nationally recognized leader in Latin America affairs and U.S. Latina achievement. She served as President Bill Clinton’s White House liaison to the Transportation Department and is a former president of the National Women’s Political Caucus and the former advisory board chairwoman of the Inter-American Foundation.
